Bump is currently getting used to a very noisy workshop with lots of bashing, hammering, forming, soldering, polishing and sanding! Hopefully when this little one arrives she will be familiar with all the sounds of a busy workshop and have no problems sleeping through the noise! (Haha fingers crossed!)
35weeks and still going strong! #bumpandmummyselfie
Autumn is my favourite time of year; I love the colours of the leaves, the atmospheric sky and of course it's one of the best times of year for foraging my little acorns and cones.
Here's some pics from a recent walk at Burrough Hill, a picturesque iron age hill fort in Leicestershire.
Even on a grey and dreary day it's fantastic to get your welly-bobs and waterproofs on and explore your local countryside :)
On the 31st July 2016 Danielle and James celebrated their wedding #2 (yes that's right, second wedding!) and the naming of the gorgeous little Taylor Sofia.
Although Danielle and James wed last year, as they were set to move to Las Vegas with work their first wedding was organised in just a few weeks and only a few of their friends and family could make it.
A year on and the couple wanted to bring together all their closest friends and family and celebrate the birth of their first child so decided to organise Wedding #2 aka Cotton House Wedding Fest.
The humanist ceremony and reception was held at the beautiful grounds of Danielle's parents home in rural Leicestershire, complete with hay bale seating and a rose covered arch.
The atmosphere was relaxed and the setting idyllic with a lovely mix of country and bohemian styles. Even the family horses had the important role to play as "bridesmares".
Danielle looked absolutely stunning in a white lace dress and I was so touched that she chose to wear one of our Curious Magpie Necklaces on such a special day.
After the ceremony, James held up Taylor Sofia to introduced her to everyone whilst "The Circle Of Life" from the Lion King played through the sound system. Taylor looked slightly bewildered by all the smiling faces and cameras but she was cool as a cucumber and totally owned it.
After lots of lovely food and drink, dancing, and numerous renditions of Sweet Home Alabama, we were treated to a gorgeous sunset over the corn fields.
Thank you for letting us share such a special day with you and I'm looking forward to Wedding #3!
As a self confessed magpie for the unusual, the unique and of course the handmade, I'm always on the look out for gifts that are a little less ordinary. With Father's Day around the corner I've been busy combing the internet for gifts for Dad that aren't sock, beer or err...socks...
Here are some of my favourite finds that I want to share with you to inspire your gift buying.
Super Hero Dad Print by Karin Akesson Design
Karin is a Swedish born illustrator based in London. She creates bold and striking designs for the home inspired by her Scandinavian roots.
I love this fun and quirky print and although my Dad can't fly he's still pretty super.
Personalised Wooden Watch by Not A Scratch
If you're slightly obsessed with anything laser cut or engraved (as I am) this watch will be right up your street. Created by Luke Holden this unusual design can be personalised with a special message on the back. This chunky, contemporary style watch is perfect for a super cool Dad.
Crochet Beer Glass Holder by Handmade by Hema
If you're looking for wacky and way-out-there this is definitely the gift for you. These festival inspired drinks holders are great for a bohemian Dad and will mean that he can keep his beer around his neck when expertly grilling on the BBQ this summer (veggie burgers obviously). Hema has been knitting since a young age and after noticing a gap in the market designed these quirky drinks holders as part of her festival range.
Wall Mounted Beer Opener by In Between The Kids
We all know that every Dad loves a gadget, and loves beer. Fact. This cool wall mounted beer opener ticks both boxes and can be personalised as well (yes!!!). In Between The Kids owner Lyndsey creates lots of goodies which can be personalised with names dates and special messages so check out her store for more ideas.
USB Mixtape by Blank Records
Blank Records Tiffany Roddis is inspired by anything retro with a nostalgic twist. These personalised USB Mixtapes are the perfect flashback gift for you to fill with your favourite Dad dancing memories.
This unusual and thoughful gift holds up to 8mb of files and can be personalised with your own message and design and comes in a cute gift box.
Silver Hog Cufflinks by I Made These
The Hogfather of all cufflinks these chunky cufflinks crafted in sterling silver make an unusual gift for Dad this Father's Day. Loretta from I Made These creates all her pieces in her Brighton studio and loves working in silver, brass and precious gemstones. She uses traditional techniques to create statement pieces of jewellery, often that are one off designs.
I wanted to include this crochet Yoda figure in my gift guide AS IT'S AMAZING! I have great memories of Star Wars marathons with my Dad so this gift has special meaning for me. The talented Giovanna is inspired by her love of books, films and pop culture. Perfect gift for Father's Day me thinks, hummm....
...Becuase we all know he is the King of the Grill. A fun gift for Dad this Father's Day this BBQ set can be personalised with a special message. Darkling Designs create great, witty laser engraved gifts so check out their store for more ideas.
I hope you feel inspired by my gift guide and enjoyed the read! I now have to decide what to get my Dad...err all of them!?!
We had a fantastic day at the artisan craft fair, Market At The Manor, in Tur Langton in Leicestershire on Sunday.
The sunshine was out and the there was a great selection of different unique designers, makers and retailers.
Here's some pictures of our stand showcasing all our woodland jewellery, complete with authentic foraged wooden logs!
We're very much looking forward to the next event in June :)
In March 2016 we took part in the instagram challenge #marchmeetthemaker. The challenge, started by Joanne Hawker, was designed to allow creative businesses to tell the story behind their brand and give an insight into the face, processes, and all the hard work that goes into creating beautiful handmade products.
Every day in March we posted a picture on our instagram page giving you a sneak peek into the day to day life at Curious Magpie Jewellery.
Posts included studio images, tools, how the jewellery is made and the odd picture of the super cute kittens, Bel and Tam!
Here's a few of our favourite days.
